Adult carpet beetles feed on pollen and are strong fliers. Females enter houses and lay their eggs in cracks and crevices or on carpets, especially along the wall or under infrequently moved furniture, stored woollen clothing, furs and other fabrics may also be infested. Larvae feed all year round, destroying carpet and fabric in the process. They avoid exposure to direct light and can take several years to complete their life cycle.
Treatment Modern woolen carpets are manufactured with insect resistant treatments. However, it is unlikely that these treatments will remain effective for the usefull life of the carpet.
